The big “T”
The fire tablets come pre-loaded with a subscription to Amazon Kids which is a complete hellscape of content. In-laws bought them for our kids and we’ve had to disable pretty much everything to the point that they’re just portable Netflix machines. Not worth it at all.

Recommendations for a tablet that doesn't do this
Just get an S9 FE or S10 FE for around $200-$400 on back market and get an otterbox style case there's lots of them that look like kids style and have a kickstand/handle also.. plus samsung kids will provide all kinds of app/time restrictions monitor usage and have safe kids content if you want to k

What's going on with Amazon's assault on Fire HD tablet owners?
Pretty much, the same thing happened to me. Like some of the other posters, I will never buy another fire tablet. And by the way, I also agree that the Amazon App Store is worthless. So what’s the point of buying a fire table if you can’t use it. The only thing I do with mine these days is play movi

What’s off about this?
I was an Amazon Fire tablet rep for a while and they wanted me to test and use other brands every store I went to so I could find differences and highlight why the fire tablet was better. Spoiler: the Fire tablets were never better unless it was up against a terrible Chinese android tablet using anc

iPad vs fire thing?
Don't get the Fire tablet. I have used almost all versions of them (atleast every 2 years) since the first version. Its dead cheap to upgrade them during the sale events. anyways, they completely dropped the amazon app store (for phones). Not sure if the apps are getting updated regularly for tablet

Is the Japanese app not available on google play anymore? I’m connected to a Japanese vpn and using the email/account I made with said vpn that I downloaded it with initially, but it won’t let me update.
Figured it out I think. Apparently Fire tablets can’t update their os. The app no longer works with os 7 and a 2021 Fire HD 10 can’t run anything above 7.2, they make you buy a new $150 tablet for each update. Fuck Amazon.

Best tablet for kids?
I've been in a similar spot, and I'd say the Amazon Fire Tablet is okay as a starter tablet for kids, mainly because of the price and the protective case. But yes, you're pretty much limited to Amazon's apps, and that can get frustrating as your kids grow and want more options. If you can find a fai

What to give out to K-1st graders for distance learning?
What it says on the tin... im trying to find a cost effective way to get k-1st graders online and working. I have a budget of around $100 per device but I can always try and ask for funding.
I was looking at the Amazon fire hd 10 kids but im definitely hesitant because they use their own appstore
