Studio monitors as desktop speakers
Stick with Adams Audio as the Adams Sub-woofer is likely to pair better.. For desktop speakers I would not want to have too large a box and have seen Kef Egg now sell very low in the UK. Adams A5X, A4V, A&X worth considering and trying to get a demonstration.

Editors, What kind of speakers are you using to mix audio with.
I recently upgraded to a pair of Adam Audio A4V speakers. They’re fucking great and SO PRETTY! A little bit over your budget, particularly if you don’t already have an audio interface or mixer for volume control but personally I think they’re worth every penny.
