Questions about Xteink?

I’m going to chime in with a sentiment I’ve seen in the comments already, just to add another voice requesting it: better build quality and a frontlight. I’ve been very lucky to receive two working devices (out of two), an x3 and x4, but I am concerned on button longevity. They feel noticeably ‘loos

Is this the end of the interest in this and future devices?

It is for me. Was planning on buying another X3, but now after learning this is the way XTEink is going, then that's it for me. These are tinkering eReaders, locking them down is BS.

X3 owners running vCodex - how is your experience?

For X3 too slow for me. Many screen mistakes also. I have just back to the CrossInk. I guess too much apps not good for xteink devices.

Flashing of firmwares DISABLED

Received my X3 On April 06. Just tested Crosspoint install, thank goodness it worked I was planning on getting another for the Wife, but this news seals the decision not to. To bad, no more Xteink devices. Thank you OP for sharing these news.

Some clarification on what’s been discussed about firmware lately

truly a disappointing “clarification” and a disgrace to the craft of ereaders, technology, and a disgrace to the people who purchase your product. i thought the move to the X3 and the poor reception was just an oversight and maybe you just understood the target market a bit wrong, but it seems like

Will I get a locked device if I buy it from their official website

USA customer here. I ordered an X3 from XTEINK's official website Apr 12 and received it 4 days ago. IT IS LOCKED AND I CANNOT FLASH CROSSPOINT TO IT AT THIS TIME. Waiting for the latest hack to be made available soon. I hope the XTEINK company is learning something from all this. Rather than apply

Some clarification on what’s been discussed about firmware lately

Locking down firmware has absolutely nothing to do with security. A bit ironic to use an open source motherboard on a device you intend to lockdown, regardless of the market-specific nonsense you’re spewing. Enjoy my X4 and was heavily considering an X3. Also got very excited about the newer models

Main Differences in official firmware vs crosspoint custom

I think u/beapeacock said it perfectly. While, I don't think the stock firmware is necessarily difficult to get used to, the learning curve is steep. It's certainly not as convenient as a Kindle or a Kobo. I think the thing we're all holding our breath for is to see what the official XTEINK app will

I regret getting my xteink x4

I think there are kinks to be worked out with speed maybe. I have an x3 and the size was a bit smaller than I should’ve gotten (I think I should’ve gone with an x4)… and coming from a kindle, I was used to snappier reading, not having to index as often as I have been on crossink. I may try to go bac

Love the portability, but struggling with reading in the dark. What are your solutions?

I don't have an Xteink yet, I'm waiting for the android edition because not being able to change font sizes easily is a deal breaker to me. My close-up vision went from better than average to me bitching about why every label is printed SO small in the last two years. It sucks. That said, every time
