Yeah, and realistically, we're not even comparing to often-on-sale costco units like the Winix C535 and its newer siblings. I got a Winix C535 a month or so ago and at the first speed (out of 4), I can't hear it and I'm very sensitive to noise. I have to really get close to it to hear level 2.
