The e3200 extenders hardly ever go bad. It should last over a decade as long as there's no crazy power surges that might fry it like any other electronic. IMO the newer Verizon model (cr1000) doesn't offer that much improvement over the g3100 in real world scenarios, even though it does technically have better hardware. Verizon will be coming out with a new router within the year though. If you're an internet only customer you can also consider buying
