I had the same issue with my The North Face Borealis model, but this Thule Chasm has gaps/channels on the front that look promising.I will test it for a couple of weeks and get back to this post with some feedback.

Osprey has some pretty good packs I think. I've only had my quasar for a short while but I did get it secondhand from ebay and so far I have no issues (the warranty sold me haha). Any particular carry style you want? Running vests are a great, lightweight option for day hike/long walks. Can throw in a water bladder and just use that for yourself and the dog.
