My Suunto 9 Peak Pro has never crashed during recording about a 1000 activities. It has failed to correctly save a finished activity twice. There are none with an NSN to the best of my knowledge. GPC route will be the way to go. Good luck on getting funding for it though in a shut down. I'd recommend going with something that is on the NSA approved PED list in the event your CC and Security Manager want to go the route of approving them

The battery life available in a $250 Coros watch (41 hours of GPS usage) is super solid. You get 40 hours with Suunto 9 Peak Pro, which is awesome, glad there are options, but Garmin can only get you 19 hours. That's not good enough

It doesn't really matter. No wrist sensor will be as good as a chest strap. So if you think to update only because of that it doesn't sound like money well spent. If you're happy with the Polar ecosystem, I'd stay with Polar. I use Suunto purely because I like its UI more, both the watch and the app
