Have you considered open ear buds like those from Sony the linkbuds. They clip on your ear and not in.

Never heard of Life, but I have soundcore a40 that never had problems, although I haven't taken it on an airplane. I would suggest trying again with a more name brand bud, like a Sony wf-C710 or Sony Linkbuds S.
