got my max 4.... so far so fail.
fresh update - tech support got back to me and recommended first a factory reset through the UI, and if still having issues, to send them a log dump. i had a hunch this would be the case, but didn't want to try it and find out they wanted a different process. the factory reset seems to have worked.

Qidi Plus 4 with Qidi Box
I know you posted this a while back now, but if you are doing stuff for under the hood the 4 Plus or the Max 4 are what you are going to want. Big volumes, high temp materials are the name of the game. I printed, and I am currently printing more, car parts for under the hood of my 408 turbo firebird
