30 m tagline that’s usable alone?

I’ve rapped on the petzl purline a bunch. I use a grivel scream and an autoblock and it is great. You could also use a reverso and stuff both strands through one slot and add a second locking carabiner

Weekly Question Thread (aka Friday New Climber Thread). ALL QUESTIONS GO HERE

Not a ton of differentiation aside from guide loops. Some models dont like fatter ropes as much (think petzl reverso, dmm pivot) while others are more okay with them (think ATC) but any will work just fine for a rap so in that regard yeah a tube is a tube. If you are really into the nitty gritty som

What’s everyone’s favorite anticross loading carabiner?

Once you get good at belaying you really don’t need an anti cross loading carabiner. Depends on the device, I learned on tubular devices (ATC, Reverso) and was quite proficient, never any cross loading problems with regular HMS biners(BD, Petzl, Mammut). New gym required assisted device so I got a g

New to trad and multipitch - problem / question about tube style device

With extensive experience on multi pitches, the Petzl Reverso is both lightweight and reliable. It has teeth for catching your 2nd, you won’t struggle to hold them if they take.

Grigri for assisted braking. There are some devices that are like 10% better than a grigri in certain aspects but for all-around versatility, safety, and quality control they're the standard for a reason. With that said, ABD's from reputable manufacturers are good and safe too (e.g. Trango Vergo, Be

First Belaying Device

Black diamond pilot is a great option for the gym and single pitch sport. Grab a petzl reverso for when you need to start rappelling and belaying from the top. I only use my grigri for route development now. Whatever device you use just keep your hand on the brake strand and they're all safe.

Guiding in a group of 4

Petzl's micro-traxion is not a belay device. It is not designed to arrest falls! It is: Designed for crevasse rescue, hauling, self-rescue, and for use as an emergency ascender Its uses: 8. Uses 8a. Hauling 8b. Pulley system 8c. Rope ascent Don't use it or any similar devices for belays. Your second

New Belay Device for Top Roping

Grigri or a guide mode ATC (e.g. Petzl Reverso, BD ATC Guide, or DMM Pilot). Grigris are the safe, bombproof, and have immaculate quality control. They're the standard assisted braking device for a reason. As you get more advanced, they're also useful for multipitch climbing, self-rescue, and rappel

Protection: 16 Walnuts sized 1-10 (some overlap) 4x Torque nuts (size 1-4) 4x cams (sized 1-4) Instead of the torque nuts, get either DMM alloy offsets 7-11 (or 7-9...10/11 don't really leave my harness in my experience). What would be the perfect belay device for you?

I haven't seen anyone really talk about it, but for me the perfect belay device that's on the market currently depends on the type of climbing you are doing. Sport: Edelrid Pinch the direct attachment to the harness is a game changer. I haven't used my GriGri in over a year unless I have to, and hat
