Advice after top-rope belaying/lowering accident?
belay gloves / assisted braking device (grigri, pilot, giga jul) and you will be totally fine also consider thickness of rope vs size of atc. some are super wide and thinner ropes fly through (BD ATC), some are really skinny (e.g. Petzl reverso) and thick ropes will be almost jammed in there in your

RAD kit - can I do better for the $$?
That rope just seems to be a bit thick. Maximum rated rope size for the GriGri is 11 mm. The 11.7 might feed but it will be a lot tougher to pull through. I climbed with Yale blaze 11 mm rope and it feeds well, and with it being at the maximum end of the rated rope size it never slips even when goin

Anyone ever use a fall arrester / ascender on the anchor to protect your belay position instead of the standard rope looped round the anchor and clove hitch to harness?
You would still need to release tension in order to adjust those types of progress capture devices. Maybe use a grigri and tie a backup knot below it when you get your desired position so you can leave the brake side unattended? Depending how much you need to adjust though another commenter mentione

Quick Question about Auto-Blocking Belay devices
6mm sounds awfully thin for a glacier rope, but sounds like the cool kids are doing that these days. I’ve used 7.5s on alpine climbs and it looked like dental floss, but at least it was light! Any sort of thin-rope ATC will work fine for glacier travel use, like the mammut one, petzl, or BD. A grigr

Rock climbing gear/techniques?
Yeah that’s basically my system except I use the Grigri instead of the Rig and a Petzl rollclip instead of the pulley and I attach both from the bottom, though I’ll try the top attachment point next time and see how I like it. I really want to try the Petzl Rig. It’s made for bigger ropes so I imagi

Why do I keep frying my pulley?
I appreciate the comment. Anything life-support is namebrand and rated. With us being new to this and having to buy two of everything for the second set up for the kids trying to do it as economically as possible, and once I know exactly how it’s going to be forever namebrand for the ascenders and n

Looking for a carabiner for Mega Jul 2 and GriGri, can I have some help? Also, I have a couple inquiries about belay devices.
HMS stands for something German that basically means a carabiner that can fit a munter hitch which is a way to belay without a device. I would avoid a lot of the locked/orientation type carabiners for a grigri, depending on the model they may create more of an issue cross loading than just a regular

Why do I keep frying my pulley?
That sounds like a much cooler job than mine! I’ve definitely been looking at the RIG, since I put this system together. I went with the GriGri mostly because it was more compact. With the 11 mm arborist rope I’ve tested it and no matter how hard I bounce on it I can’t get it to slip, but the 11 mm
