Hiking and outdoors beginner – what backpack would you recommend as essential one?

Size reccomendation for a day bag?
I use the Osprey Talon 26, which is probably overkill. I do like it for those long 12+ mile treks though.

Is the osprey 26 litre an overkill for day hiking?
I have an Osprey Talon 26 liter, and was kind of guessing on sizes too. For a quick one or two hour hike, it wouldn’t need to be that big, but there’s also no reason it can’t be.
