40L Mountaineering pack?

I love my osprey mutant 38. It can do pretty much anything you ask of it. Also, check out hyperlite's prism or crux packs.

I can’t help but hoot & holler when I ski

Osprey Mutant 38 with the brain removed. I wouldn’t recommend it specifically for ski touring though—it’s more of an alpine climbing/mountaineering pack. I got it several years ago as a do-it-all pack because I was on a budget, and have yet to replace it because it works fine.

Considering getting an Osprey Mutant 38L - should I? And 22L or 38L?

To each their own, but my opinion is that a 38 liter is still small enough to be a good day pack with minimal gear. I have so many packs it's not even funny, but since I bought my Osprey Talon Velocity 30L I found myself using for almost everything. OP, I considered the Mutant 38L but I liked the fa

Should I get a Mountaineering Specific Pack?

Yes, it is nice to have a climbing pack for climbing! It fits better with climbing motions, has better straps for climbing-specific gear, and also, I don't want to damage my lightweight overnight pack while scrambling. I have the Osprey Mutant 38 and love it, but don't think it's a market standout.

Backpack for tall people

What constitutes too small for yourself? I’m 198cm and have never particularly struggled. I have the osprey mutant 38, Patagonia ascensionist 35 and 55. Yeah they sit higher up on me than an average wearer but I just take that as the nature of things. When the climbing starts I fold the hip belts ar

Anyone here purchased an Alpine Luddites pack?

I’ve taken a sewing class from him and made my own 50L pack (this was for Peru and longer alpine trips.) It was mostly motivated for the experience and knowledge gained, but I love that I could really add features, color and materials to make a unique lightweight 50L pack that had everything I wante

Backpack setup for multi-day via ferrata without paid mountain huts

I was well served by my Osprey Mutant 38 liter bag for a recent 4 day Hut to Hut trip that I did in the Dolomites. If I traded some the emergency overnight gear that I had for UL overnight gear, I would have been very well equipped for a similarly experience to what you are talking about. So long as

Backpack For Wetland Surveys

I’m an ecologist and also use an Osprey backpack - specifically a small blaze orange “mutant 38” Osprey backpack with water bladder. I have to carry a robel pole, so I got a rock climbing pack that has these little strap thingys that can hold two poles on the outside. I carry all electronics in a se

Backpack recommendations

I'd highly recommend an Osprey pack (I love the Mutant 38 for climbing) because they have a lifetime warranty and will replace your damaged packs for no charge. My bigger cams tend to rip the inside of my bag, so I've really appreciated this.

Anyone have experience with the Salomon Aerotrek 50l?

Never heard anything about Salomon packs outside of running vests. I would suggest Osprey stratos or talon 44 if you want that style ventilation or Osprey mutant 38/52 if you want something more technical but less breathable.
