Mutant 38

I love my osprey mutant 38. It can do pretty much anything you ask of it. Also, check out hyperlite's prism or crux packs.

Osprey Mutant 38 with the brain removed. I wouldn’t recommend it specifically for ski touring though—it’s more of an alpine climbing/mountaineering pack. I got it several years ago as a do-it-all pack because I was on a budget, and have yet to replace it because it works fine.

Yes, it is nice to have a climbing pack for climbing! It fits better with climbing motions, has better straps for climbing-specific gear, and also, I don't want to damage my lightweight overnight pack while scrambling. I have the Osprey Mutant 38 and love it, but don't think it's a market standout.

I'd highly recommend an Osprey pack (I love the Mutant 38 for climbing) because they have a lifetime warranty and will replace your damaged packs for no charge. My bigger cams tend to rip the inside of my bag, so I've really appreciated this.

Never heard anything about Salomon packs outside of running vests. I would suggest Osprey stratos or talon 44 if you want that style ventilation or Osprey mutant 38/52 if you want something more technical but less breathable.
