How do you handle lots of weight on an achy back with a backpack?

This is all about overhead sized bags. Load transfer and under seat bags aren’t happening. Reduce the weight as much as possible! Get a pack with a load transferring harness that comes in various torso lengths or adjustable torso length for a proper fit. That will put 80% of the weight on your hips.

FarPoint/FairView old vs. new side-by-side comparison

Just my thoughts: I had the Farpoint 40L and then changed to Osprey Unisex Sojourn Porter 46L. It's already a huge game changer to hide the Hip-Belt.. it has more advantages but fast YouTube search explains it better. If someone looks at the Farpoint/Fairview look at the Sojourn Porter.

Backpacks for beginners

if carry on is the priority look at 40-45L packs — osprey farpoint 40 is the go to, fits most airline sizers and the hip belt is solid for the weight you'd carry. grab a packable daypack for smaller hikes and you're set

28 day Japan, onebag first timer

35-40L is the right range for 28 days, and bringing a personal-item bag defeats the onebag goal - if you're going backpack-only, pick one. coin laundries (コインランドリー) are everywhere in japan even in small towns, with detergent vending in the laundromat itself, so pack five days of clothes and let the

Living without wheels — ?maybe? A stashable activity backpack. Recoiling chargers, and more questions.

I'm not familiar with that Osprey bag but I have a Farpoint 40. Are you using the waist strap/load lifters and chest strap properly? I just came back from Coz and was able to fit ALL my dive gear (like full setup minus tanks and weights). And everything else for a week in my Cotopaxi Allpa 42 (my so

How much stuff can you fit into 10kg allowance (especially toiletaries and jeans)?

A lot! It depends on the stuff of course. Don’t fall into the trap of taking 10kg just because you can. But a 40 liter can handle a 10kg kit and one with a load transferring harness like the Osprey Farpoint 40 will put 80% of the weight in your hips vs your shoulders. That can be a 4 season wardrobe

Help, good backpacks don't fit on planes...

Osprey Farpoint 40. Wife and I have been traveling full-time with it and it’s never been refused as carry on including Ryanair and assorted discount-airline goblins. Pack weighs 1.5 kg. What is unique about this pack is that straps can be hidden, so it looks like a duffel bag After 10 years of daily

Struggling to Choose the Right Backpack for Travel + Overnight Hiking

I think you're asking too much here. Although one of my friends uses a Kelty Redwing (36?) this way. He says it's tough to get all his multi day stuff secured though. I actually don't own a travel backpack per se. You see the Farpoint 40 recommended a lot. Despite that, it has a just-ok harness (but

Anything better or similar to the Cotopaxi travel pack?

Only thing they have is cool colors. The fabric is really nice. Back panels are not ventilated so you will sweat a lot. Shoulder straps aren’t very good. They pack way too big for carry on unless you can figure out some kind of compression system. Straps aren’t fully stowable and there’s no adjustab

Best Boot Bags? What’s Actually Good?

I have a Dakine 50L that is ok, decent quality and design and has stood up to maybe 10 years of use. But when I travel I use my Osprey Farpoint 40 which I can (barely) fit my boots, helmet, goggles, bibs, jacket and some clothes. Fits into an overhead compartment and doesn't skimp on shoulder straps
