Is a Osprey Farpoint 40L + Patagonia Black Hole Mini MLC suitable for 4 weeks in Japan/Indonesia?
Try getting your packing list for just the hike into your Sirrus now. Does it fit? If so, don't read the rest of this comment. 😂 I don't think you want a Farpoint 40. And, I don't think you want to take your Sirrus with you. I think you want a large hiking pack you can carry on. This is a bit tricky

I think I have had 10 bags so far and still not sure what the ideal size for travel is.
Visited Thailand for 4 weeks with Osprey Farpoint 40L. This was OK for cabin apart from internal flights. I was hit with last minute charge similar to flight cost for oversize. Just bought Osprey 26+6 for hot weather trips in future.

One Man’s Opinion-Far point 40
I agree! Used it on 1 trip and promptly returned it. I could not pack it properly to fit in regional jet overhead bins cuz it packs outward like a giant turtle shell. This tendency to act like a turtle shell had me falling over at the ferry port in Split and some random guy helped me up. I had previ

Bag Finder Megathread - 20 April 2026
What's your bag of choice for backpacking that involves a lot of trekking? I'm going to be doing a year of backpacking next year and will be going through cities, but also doing multi day hikes in certain regions throughout the year. I was looking bags like the Tortuga 40L and the Cotopaxi 35L, and

40L osprey vs forclaz 40L, 1 month SA backpacking trip
I don't know about the Forclaz but the Farpoint 40 is relatively heavy for its capacity and the carry on weight limit for most budget flights around SE Asia is 7kg. For this reason I don't use it anymore for SE Asia. I'm currently using an Osprey Talon 36 which I happened to already have.

Packing list for 3+ month travel in SEA
Your stuff in Osprey Farpoint 40 may be too big and/or heavy for cabin luggage on some budget flights within SEA. I got caught out last month on an internal Thai flight with a 10kg OF40. They did weigh it and also watch you put it in the sizing box.

I’m Looking for a travel backpack that does it all?
I just spent 45 days in Mexico. Usually I bring an Osprey Farpoint 40 as my carry-on, and one of my Domke bags - usually the F-5XC because it's large enough to pack accessories - this is my personal item. This recent trip I brought the smaller, F-5XB. In there was my Leica Q and Canon Rebel Ti with
