I improved my monitoring situation, mixing is way easier and now I’m finding most plugins useless.

KH80s are amazing speakers at their size but are by no means enough on their own or without a sub for professional mixing and mastering. As a secondary alternate pair to a larger speaker there’s few choices better than kh80’s. But on their own, sorry they are not going to expose details in a mix lik

We can talk anecdotes and opinions all day. If you look at the EBU Tech paper section 2.2, they specify to 40 Hz. The KH80 is -4 dB at 55 Hz. So granted, they don’t quite get there, but I’ll say that even 60 Hz plus some headphones is sufficient. https://tech.ebu.ch/docs/tech/tech3276.pdf https://ww

Kali Lp6v2 vs higher end brands?

For your setup, the Kali LP6v2 gives excellent value - wide sweet spot, solid low-end for the price, and pairs well with Sonarworks. In a small untreated room, the Genelec 8010A or Neumann KH 80 will translate better due to tighter imaging and built-in DSP (in KH 80). If you can grab KH 80s used wit

Looking for Studio Monitors ~$2,000–$3,000 for Small Home Studio (Experimental Electronic / Ambient / Indie Pop / Contemporary Classical)

Neumann KH 80 + KH 750 or Genelec 8030 + 7050, both with DSP room correction. The bass won't be excessive with properly placed and tuned sub, actually it will be excellent. I personally recommend purchasing a measurement mic, it will help with positioning and equalization - the results will pleasant

Monitors (around $1000) best for accurate mixing?

Neumann KH80 - best bang for Buck. Get the MA1 if you can; you won’t get anythng close to this honesty and quality of sound in that price range. Also you have the option to later upgrade to KH750 Subwoofer to get a full range system. (You should definitely get some bass traps for that though)

Very good Speaker Made in Europe

Neumann are owned by Sennheiser. I've a pair of KH80's and they're amazing for music production and mixing. I love them for casual listening too, but they're definitely overkill for that! Genelecs and ADAMs are good too (I've had monitors from both in the past), ADAM Audio is based in Berlin and own

My setup, I'd like to think it's clean

Thanks for your thoughtful comment man, there are some reasons behind that. I think for someone setting up a desk like mine, the person is bound to have some sort of OCD. I went as far as to select a pre-power amp set that had the power amp standing on the opposite side of my PC case to create the s

Kitting out my first home studio

That great sensation when you plan how to build your new playground 🤩 I'll start from the subwoofer. Your JBLs have quite a good theoretical response in the low-end, so I suggest to add a subwoofer only after a proper acoustic treatment and only if you really need it, because sub frequencies can eas

Upgrading to a more serious pair of monitors

Good question - i was going to add this but didnt have much time yesterday. The MA-1 calibration with Neumann helps by EQ correction, as well as phase and delay - which can be very helpful for subs. But you're right, you want to get the placement as flat as possible so it doesnt have to do so much c

Need and advice: Genelec vs Focal vs Neumann

Can confirm. Subwoofer is a must with the Neumanns. Went with the larger kh-120s for the better bass and ended up buying a subwoofer anyway. If I was doing it again I would go sub + kh80.
