I improved my monitoring situation, mixing is way easier and now I’m finding most plugins useless.
KH80s are amazing speakers at their size but are by no means enough on their own or without a sub for professional mixing and mastering. As a secondary alternate pair to a larger speaker there’s few choices better than kh80’s. But on their own, sorry they are not going to expose details in a mix lik

Has anyone else got disappointed in music after you went hi-fi?
I distinctly remember getting my first discman with clip-on Sony headphones, listening to a hiphop CD and wondering why the kickdrum was obscuring the bass, if that was a mistake, deliberate choice, or unavoidable. I have always analyzed music for how it sounds, couldn't help it, so I was naturally

Small room / desk against wall — which speakers/monitors should I buy?
Of the speakers you mentioned, I would probably advise against any rear-ported speakers like the T5V or HS5 - though I am a total Adam fan. I would suggest to check out the Adam D3V or IK Multimedia iLoud micromonitor. I believe they are in your budget and come with built in DSP for room correction.

This was the first SFF I built, actually the first PC I built in 25+ years. Now I can't stop.
It's amazing at its size. It does really sound good, and I've had friends moved from Genelec to them. I did move on because I wanted something less monitor-y for this setup. (I have the Neumann KH-80 on my editing desk, which to me is better than D3V but also much more expensive)

I only have an hour today. Shame me for plugin it in to $50 Monitors off of Craigslist.
I’d suggest Neumann. Kh120 or kh80 in a smaller room.

Studio monitors for casual music enjoyment
they don't look too different sizewise from the swanns . you could always get the kh80 but they are not going to sound the same either. to get these things to ear level, i use a small stand (yorkville sks-t-11) best thing for me was to try different speakers in a store. adam has those ribbons that i

Speakers good for orchestral music, in a small room?
Lots of good brand speakers I’ve liked listening to classical/orchestral music though include B&W, Klipsch (horns), Wharfedale, Focal. I’ve always liked how Bowers and Wilkins speakers sound with orchestral/instrumental music, had an older model bookshelf (DM17) in my teens before getting my perform

Kitting out my first home studio
That great sensation when you plan how to build your new playground 🤩 I'll start from the subwoofer. Your JBLs have quite a good theoretical response in the low-end, so I suggest to add a subwoofer only after a proper acoustic treatment and only if you really need it, because sub frequencies can eas
