Am I crazy In that I mix BETTER on HS8s than my nicer Neumann Monitors?

Hey, I can totally relate. I use Neumanns myself (KH120 II), but it actually makes sense – most listeners out there will hear the music on setups that are closer to HS8s than to high-end monitors. I wouldn’t be surprised if the HS8s simply force you to make decisions that translate better because th

Is high-end outboard lost on mid-tier mics? Rather better mics than add outboard pre, eq, comp?

Oh yeah, I do! Love my KH120’s and well-treated room! Valid question/suggestion! I’m sure I could do better monitor-wise, like some big sexy ATC’s (the dream), but my Neumann’s continue to serve me and my humble little space well more than a decade in!

Studio Monitor Recommendations — Alternatives to the Genelec 8330

A comparable choice would be the Neumann KH 120 II. This model is front-ported and therefore can be placed right against a wall. Other than that they are very similar to the 8330 in performance and build quality.

Let’s See Those In-room Response Curves!

Minidsp Flex driving two Neumann KH-120 II's and a pair of OG SVS SB-1000 subs in fullrange stereo mode. Heavily treated small room, focused on tight balanced decay across frequency range for analytical nearfield use. Target curve 6dB bass boost from flat. The subs have evil THD below 35Hz so I drop

Struggling to achieve a professional vocal sound - Need advice

Monitoring is EVERYTHING when trying to get a pro sound. The first time I sat in front of my Neumann KH 120 II, moving from Yamaha HS5, I was blown away by how easy it was to find what I was looking for in my mixes. If you can’t get a polished sound, it’s usually because of masking. If you can’t fin

Recommendation on audio monitors with a $2k - $3k budget.

I'm happy with the Neumann KH 120 II monitors, along with their finicky but helpful MA-1 alignment/calibration mic and software. https://www.neumann.com/en-us/products/monitors/kh-120-ii?variant=509122 But as others here say, see if you can hear a few leading models. Bring in the material (or type o

Home Office Speaker - Desktop Placement / Nearfield Listening

Active near-field monitors will win in nearfield most of the time due to active crossovers and dedicated waveguides. Check out Neumanns KH-120.

Are Genelecs really worth it?

There's two reasons I can think of. Can harshness be explained entirely through frequency response? And the second reason is that the genelec required better room correction in order to sound right. I've used the Neumann kh120 that has similar if not better response, but it doesn't sound harsh at al

Budget Atmos vs High-end Stereo Monitors

That's a tough call honestly. I feel you on wanting to future-proof with Atmos, but tbh a great stereo mix translates better than a mediocre Atmos one. If your room treatment is already solid, I'd lean toward investing in high-end stereo monitors first - something like Neumann KH 120 II or Genelec 8

Editors, What kind of speakers are you using to mix audio with.

You can for sure get a pair of professionally-decent audio monitors for $300-$500 US. They won't be great and I wouldn't use them to finish audio for Netflix or whatever, but for most corporate work, YouTube, and lots of other stuff, there are a bunch of good options. Here's a slight edit of a post
