Here is your annual (weekly? daily? hourly?) reminder that the Neumann KH120 and KH80 exist. The KH120 is ideal but out of your budget. JBL 308P MKII would be my budget choice for this. Op specifically said they don't want passives. BTW Kef brings value to the table. They are the best speakers at their respective price point, but if they are more expensive in the ops country, he should look at another brand. Paradigm and Wharfedale are brands that I prefer to Kef. I own all three.

You might not blast the speakers but you do want to consider how much headroom they have without distortion. I'd say another worthy though pricier contender might be the Neumann KH 120 II. I'd take those over the Kali which I think suffer from a lot of self noise. Not sure if that problem was solved
