Looking for suggestions on a physically small keyboard.

These are all QMK based with VIA configuration, which is close to the best in class for a programmable mechanical keyboard. How should I start to get into making custom keyboards?

Alternatively you could buy a cheap 60% keyboard and just swap in your nice case. Generally this doesn't work, cheap 60% keyboards don't tend to have GH60 mounting points. :( Skyloong is a bit of an exception here, but Womier and RK and Redragon, let alone the bottom scrapers like HKGaming, just don

At what point did you notice keyboards actually make a difference?

Back in the '80s when I realized my horrible commercial terminal with the fixed keyboard with heavy keys was damaging my hands. As for what you should buy, there are too many good inexpensive hotswap boards with QMK firmware to get anything less. CIDOO QK61 * Skyloong GK61 QMK/VIA * XVX M67 Jadestone

New keyboard

Barebones and DIY kit tends to be better quality and more versatile than apparently comparable prebuilts so technically it will cost more but you'll get a better keyboard. In the conventional 60% range I like the Skyloong GK61 because it's got QMK firmware, standard mount so you can customize it a l

Need a new keeb for gaming + programming

hardwaremarket dot net ... Wow, lot of dodgy options there, a few potential gems. Redragon K715 PRO ($10 more expensive) This is a legit QMK/VIA board with source code available online, and it's basically out of stock everywhere so if you can still get it get it. ATTACK SHARK X68 HE This one is lite

keyboard recommendations

Fantech seems to be an Australian brand, at least I've only ever seen it advertised on Amazon AU, but on paper this looks like an amazing deal for a mechanical QMK-based mechanical keyboard in your market. Fantech MAXFIT 6 (AUD $80) Other options: Womier VK66 Pro (AUD $82) I have tested this and it'

New silent 60% prebuilt or Silent Switches

I don't think that anybody has a 60% with silent switches prebuilt so you either have to get a new keyboard and silent switches or stick silent switches in your existing keyboard. Okay looking at the Amazon link, if that's the specific board it's the SK61 which uses optical switches which are kind o

Should I upgrade to a China Keyboard?

The RK61 is a Chinese keyboard. :) The new version of the RK61 with QMK firmware is pretty nice, and it's a great platform for experiemneting on. I have created a whole new layout using custom firmware for the new RK61. Source code and layout Download firmware For stock, the Skyloong GK61 DS/Pro is

Looking for a keyboard

There are a bunch of pretty nice 60% keyboards with QMK firmware right now. This is mine This cost me well over your $100 limit but that was because I kept modifying it to get to this point. You can get most of the way there with this barebones from YMDK for $88: https://ymdkey.com/products/ymdk-dk6

What do you think about keyboards with aluminum bodies?

They're heavy. I have a few and they have a nice luxurious heft to them and feel expensive, they're just kind of clumsy to shift. Some of the smaller cases are OK. Wood is also super rigid but lightweight, an all-around better material. There are also some plastic cases that are nice and rigid. The
