The Surface Pro 7 (not 7+) is end of life as of October 2025. That alone is disqualifying in my book since it means no driver and firmware updates, including security updates. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/surface-driver-firmware-lifecycle-support

The upcoming Surface Pro will be a perfect device if these things are addressed with X2
Don't hold out any hope for the AR coating, consumer Surfaces have been without any AR coating since at least the surface pro 7 (or even earlier) and microsoft has never bothered with that. Pretty confounding decision considering the surface is meant to inspire other windows pc maker (show them how

Microsoft announces sweeping Windows changes
It's too late. It's just too late. I was perfectly happy with Windows 10 on my Microsoft Surface Pro 7. And then you stop supporting Windows 10. But I can't put Windows 11 on a perfectly good Microsoft Surface Pro 7. So now, it's running mint Linux. And I'll never go back.

I appreciate you telling your story. I'm strongly leaning toward going down the Framework path later this year as a part of a switch from Windows 10 to Ubuntu. MKBHD's video about the Mac Neo feels like he purposely didnt mention Surface laptops. Instead used
Launching the Surface Pro X alongside the aging Surface Pro 7 was such a bonehead move, especially since the Pro 8 copied the sleek design of the X and still had an Intel chip. Of course, this commentary is less relevant today with better ARM support on Windows, but still, it doesn't feel like Micro

Surface fans: How do you view the Surface brand in 2026?
As a Surface Pro 7+ owner and fan, when it dies I'll likely replace it with a Samsung Tab S9 11" or look at the Lenovo offerings. Current Surfaces look too expensive for what you get, plus not happy with Microsofts decisions with the OS

Same. I have a microsoft surface pro 7 laptop running lightweight Ubuntu, and it still overheats in like 30mins of intensive use, battery life is sub 2h and its not even 60Hz but 59.7 😠+ like half a second latency from the magnetic keyboard for good measure 🥀 . Never buying a microslop product ever
