The LG Gram 14 is lighter with very similar dimensions and substantially more powerful. You could go up to 15.6 Superslim or even the 16" and still match the weight with a larger screen. Any of those can be had for $600 in excellent used or refurbished condition.

im going to recommend either 1)MacBook Air 16gigs 512 or 2) Chromebook plus(if u want to go down that route) or 3)LG gram 14, I dont remember the mrp but I think you can snag these off for under 1.5k
