My grade C X280 finally showed up

If that's a C grade, the A grade should come signed by the Lenovo CEO! That thing is mint! It should even smell like new! I miss my old X280. It's an amazing machine. Very light. Be aware that the FHD uses a different cable than the HD display. I totally recommend a repaste. I also suggest PTM7950.

Long time out of the loop...choosing a model for my mother...is T still the way to go?

What used to be Txxp and then W is now P. Which now you can buy in a lighter more integrated variant as Pxxs which is basically a T. Full circle if you will. If you go with a T you won't be wrong. The AMD T's if you're buying used are nice (4000 series chips and up). My X's are nice. But anything X1

Laptop brands?

Looking for a cheap laptop to learn Linux distros inside and out

Until recently, I have been running Arch on a 13 Y.O. ThinkPad X230, with an i5 CPU and 16G of RAM. I paid 45 USD for this machine on ebay, about five years ago. Arch ran fine on this machine, but I don't necessarily recommend using something quite this old. If you already have an antique like this,

Looking for a ThinkPad that is ideal for travel for around £200

For that price (even w/o storage), this will be a decent (or more than decent) deal in most countries' market. (Adds): If you want thinkpad with upgradable RAM, T14 is probably to go. T14 is a standard (high quality) 14 inch thinkpad line, and its gen2 (2021) was the last gen of the traditional desi

Should I buy the pro docking station charger or C charger for X280?

i'd grab the 145w dock charger for 25 bucks. the X280 negotiates power draw through the dock anyway - it'll only pull 65w max. having overhead won't hurt. the issue with your current 90w showing 40w sounds like a faulty charger or dock connection. usb-c chargers are more universal but finding a genu

Serious question: are ThinkPad users intellectually superior or just louder?

Yes, i was also working on HP and Dell as well as Thinkpad. Tbh all are okey for work. If one likes the work the hardware is secondary. But i can see the differences too. My 17 years old Lenovo G550 is waaaay nicer build than my 13 years old Dell which got sticky plastic syndrom, even if it is faste

Looking for a compact thinkpad !

To be honest, +1 on going for X280 or newer. I wouldn't personally try to daily 7th gen or older (as in X270) at this point. Unfortunately Lenovo gave up on 12-inch machines at that time. That's roughly when Dell's newest 12-inch Latitudes (5290, 7290) were also shipped as well, with that form facto

Looking for refurbished travel Thinkpad

X290/280 are gonna be nearly identical, if they both exist. They're both intel 8th gen systems and they're both 12/12.5-inch systems. They might even literally share a motherboard. X290 will use second-wave 8th gen CPUs, the ones with "5" at the end, otherwise they should perform identically. X390 w

laptop recommendation

Your best value option is likely to be a used well well built laptop with good community support for Linux. ThinkPad laptops are a prime example. Choose well for an excellent screen and keyboard, decent CPU and upgradeable memory. Replace HDD with SDD. May need replacement third party battery if you
