Unhappy X1(G9) owner, want some advice downgrading

4k display kills your battery. Avoid X1 Carbon if you don't like soft touch coating. Some other models might have a soft touch as well, so look that up before buying. I'd go with the same CPU you had, 1185g7 is a good option on a budget. Or AMD 6650u, 6850u are still powerful enough, battery efficie

MacBook Air M1 is the best purchase I have ever made

The X1 Carbons and T series feel nice (especially recent ones) but they're not a solid piece of metal so they're always going to have some creak compared to a MacBook. But the hinges are very solid and the keyboard praise is real. There are a lot of other compromises though compared to a MacBook. Wi

Switched from M2 Air to the X1 Carbon 13th Gen. Some first impressions

_UPDATE 2: I returned it. The coil whine was driving me mad. It was not only during load but it also appeared during less stressfull scenarios like browsing and office work :/ Total no go for me. You can find a youtube link in this post. Then there was the issue with the speakers doing a "plop" soun

Thinkpad T14 OLED buyers remorse?

2 hours would be ridiculous depending on the workload. But yes, I had buyer's remorse. The OLED panel was beyond beautiful but I rarely got to look at it since I mostly used a docking station. Furthermore it also felt like I'd have to treat the screen like a raw egg because a replacement would be ve

ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 14 out on PSREF

IPS panels only offered at 1920x1200 resolution this generation, non-touch IPS 1920x1200 option appears to be axed as well. Shame the 2.8K 500nit IPS VRR panel from the E14 G8 isn't being offered, or even the 2.2K IPS from the G9-G11 X1 Carbons. OLED panels are all 2.8k 500nit with VRR @ 120hz, with

Second class citizen’s laptop in an MBB sweatshop

Company EDR going ham on every file, System Integrators like Lenovo not giving a fuck to properly update their drivers for W11, bottom of the barrel cooling solutions (engineered for some low voltage CPU 10 years ago) and bad thermal paste (and badly applied too) are the main culprits of why your la

Interest check: T480 16:10 mod kit?

The IPS 4Ks (WQUXGA) from X1 Carbon G9/10 will fit, just didn't list as an option because 4K is overkill for most

Lenovo X1 Carbon is the best laptop to ever exist

What bothers me of latest X1 Carbons is that there are no options for hi-res, high refresh IPS displays. Would have loved to see a QHD or 3k IPS 120 Hz, instead of 3 options for 2.8k OLEDs

Anyone Linux users here wanting to buy the new Framework 13 Pro but struggling to justify since you buy old thinkpads?

Yes. I currently use Fedora 43 on an x1 carbon 5th gen with i7-7500u that's starting to feel very long in the tooth when hooked up to my dock and 2k monitor (laptop also has the 2k screen so this shouldn't be an issue, but is) EDIT: it's the stupid displaylink causing the issue. brb, shopping for a

Has your Thinkpad ever became a conversation piece?

Probably my T25 FrankenPad with a 16:10 WQXGA. Next time I might bring my 20th Anniversary Edition X1 Carbon out. It's currently out of commission as it's due for a screen upgrade. The original TN is unbearable and I plan on upgrading it to IPS.
