Apple Macbook Pro M1 switch to something like it in design and functionality
There's nothing quite like Apple computers out there but there are competing ones where you get different trade-offs. Look into Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon for lightweight high-end laptop or ThinkPad T14 for something repairable. Both of these work with Linux and Windows and are amazing devices.

Ein gebrauchtes ThinkPad, oder besser etwas neues kaufen?
Thinkpad, aber nicht bei dem Laden in Hannover. Google selber, lies die Rezensionen.Ansonsten sind die Kisten geil unter Linux! Habe heute mal 2! externe Monitore sowie USB Maus und Tastatur an mein X1 Carbon Gen 10 angeschlossen, works like a charm! Bei mir läuft Fedora.

Do not enjoy P14s -- how is the x1 or x9?
personally, of my thinkpads, including an x260, t480s, t14 gen 2, p14 gen 5 amd, p16 gen 3 intel, and x1 carbon gen 10, i prefer the x260 and x1 carbon for feel, size, linux/bsd compatibility, battery life, and keyboard. for processing, the p16 gen 3 has the 155h (22 threads), whereas the x1 has a 1

Just installed Ubuntu on my T14 Gen 6, really can't get this smoothness on Windows...
I use Debian on my x1 carbon gen 10. I was using Debian 12 for the longest time. Updated to Debian 13 a month ago. It’s very reliable and stable. kde alone makes it a worthwhile upgrade over gnome with Ubuntu imo The only downside to Debian is that they don’t update things often, so it may not be th

Laptop recommendations
Get a current or last gen MacBook Air with 32GB of memory and at least 1Tb of storage. Adobe programs like Ps and Illustrator are memory heavy multi-threaded workloads, you could get away with 16gb but with 32 it will last you 5 years easy. Currently that would be about $3k after tax. Right now is l

People who have switched from Windows to MacBooks… in your experience, what are the best and worst things about MacBook? And ultimately are you happy you switched?
I own an M2 MacBook Air and a Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 13. macOS is a refined operating system that Windows should have aspired to be. Open and close the lid, and the OS is instantly ready to go. It sips battery life while in sleep mode, so the next day when I’m ready to work, I simply lift the lid and

What's a good budget laptop for Linux (for my son)?
I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 on eBay and it has been great. You can get a Gen 6 to Gen 8 for under $300. I personally use LM 22.3 Cinnamon but I have tried an ungodly amount of distros using a usb drive and they all worked great!

Install 42 or wait for 43 to be fixed as a new user?
I've been using 43 Gnome from the day it came out. I have had zero issues. Although it's ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 which is generally well supported. I would say, start with 42. In a few months upgrade to 43. That's what I would do as a new user to Linux.
