T490S Throttles when on High Performance
This unfortunately is normal for these. T490s was not a good design. Lenovo thinned the chassis and choose a smaller cooling system compared with the predecessor T480s that's not up to the task of adequately cooling the 25W sustained thermal power your CPU is allowed to produce under load. T490s sto

Suosituksia kannettavan tietokoneen ostoon?

Is Lenovo ThinkPad T490s worth $210
Absolutely not. This machine is 7+ years old, on a 9-year-old platform. $210 should get you a T14/L14 Gen2 and will get you a very nice Latitude 5420 or 7420 and $250 will get you a Latitude 5440 with an intel 13th gen chip and many of these are still under the tail end of their factory 3-year warra

T490s and X13 Yoga Gen 1 in 2025?
In the hope they're 16GB or 32GB RAM (T490s), I'd favor the X13 Yoga G1. Linux more forgiving of 8GB RAM than Windows 11, but as RAM is fixed 16GB should be your minimum. X13, slightly faster RAM, Intel 10th Gen isn't a vast upgrade over 8th, Gen but a minor improvement, none the less. X13 is also a

Thinkpad for linux
ThinkPad T480 or T480s (2018) stands out as one of the best options in your budget. These models offer an excellent balance of performance, build quality, upgradability, Linux compatibility, and used market availability under $400 (often $150–350 depending on specs). Why the T480/T480s? Linux compat

Ctrl is always at the bottom corner right, right?
Lenovo thinks im buying it so they can make the most pointless change every generation to say its different. OPs picture is a perfect example, I have a t490s and a t14s in front of me with opposite placements of Fn/ctrl so clearly consistency is not what we buy lenovo for.

Replace my 5 year old T490s - can't decide
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-empire-strikes-back-with-21-hrs-of-battery-life-Lenovo-ThinkPad-T14s-Gen-6-laptop-review.1008078.0.html This is the device you should buy. Very efficient, much more powerful than the T490s and with Lunar Lake, even some light gaming is possible.
