Which ThinkPad would you recommend for College?

If you’re open to refurbished machines, a ThinkPad P15 Gen 2 with an i7-11800H and RTX A2000 is still an excellent workstation and usually pretty cheap. I’d avoid buying anything with only 16 GB if you plan to keep it through your Master’s, since MATLAB, Aspen and CAD can easily benefit from 32 GB a

Workstation-Refurb: ThinkPad

I want to replace my desktop computer with a Thinkpad that has similar specs to it. Which model that I should look for in the second hand market.

Since you mentioned nothing on the OS, I'm going to assume you're planning on using windows. You also didn't specify a budget, which is a major point in guiding you to a suitable device. I'd mainly aim for: ThinkPad L15 - the cheapest of the bunch. Usually great price/performance ratio, fully expand

Older company laptop

Check the reviews on notebookcheck https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-P15-Gen-2-laptop-review-Traditional-workstation-with-new-GPUs.567734.0.html - that one has a A3000 GPU but they review the T1200 with loads of benchmarks https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-T1200-Laptop-GPU-Benchmarks-

Half of this subb since yesterday...

Lol I imagine. Even my ThinkPad P15 Gen 2 struggles sometimes when I run BeamNG on it and I have 11850H with the Nvidia T1200 and 32gb of ddr5 (tho I gues the T1200 is a workstation GPU). Tho Linux helps a lot for me.

Thinkpad P15 Gen. 2 worth it?

I use the P15 G1. You didn't specify the GPU so I can't say if the price is right. You can upgrade it to have 128GB RAM and 2+2+2 TB SSD (unofficially, it can support 3*4 TB). I think it's a good machine for coding and data analysis. I use mine to run numerical simulations. If you're looking to run

Considering upgrading from my P52s, not sure what would be worth the upgrade

Gotcha. If ram/repairability and budget are together at the top of the priority list, I'd mention that Latitude 5440/5540 have fully sodimm'd RAM and can be upgraded to 128gb of the stuff, once prices float down. Buying one with 32gb installed today shouldn't be that big of a premium on the used mar
