Dream laptop

ThinkPad P16 if mostly on desk, P1 gen 8 if you need a bit more portability. Desktop if it doesn't need to be a laptop, much more power for your money.

Can we just talk about what a masterclass in laptop design this is?

For me, the number keypad is useless and the touchpad not being centered is an instant no. Having said that, I am a Lenovo fan and I rock my P1 Gen 7 hard, though I wish it had physical mouse buttons instead of the virtual ones.

Mechanical Engineering Laptop

The top-end T1g/P1 models trade battery life for raw performance. I find the Ultrabook Plus model to be a good all-rounder, even for CAD with fewer part counts. All packages are decent deals considering the warranty. Personally, I would wait until the summer for the Lenovo P1 Gen 9 to become availab

laptop for mechanical engineering

Used ThinkPad P1 Gen 4 is the best price:performance. Get a dedicated GPU with as much VRAM as you can.

Switching from 2019 MacBook Pro - Need ThinkPad recommendation around $1250 for heavy multitasking

I would get a P1, I have a gen 7, which would be out of your price range, but you can get a gen 4. I think it's the closest to a Macbook you could get. If you want new, A P14s Gen 6 AMD is at the top of your budget, but is a killer machine for sure.

Premium Notebook for Linux

Dell Pro Max as they call it these days. I would also add P1 Gen 8 or any of the older P1 ThinkPads

Laptop recommendations

A bit late to the party, but I will "echo" some of the sentiments already in the thread.I am currently a postdoc in comp chem, and I started "messing with these things (e.g. linux distros)" since I was in HS, as many of our fellow nerds. The TL;DR answer would be that nowadays most laptops are decen

Best Video Editing Laptop

Question: why do you want a laptop if you have no interest in mobility? You’ll much rather do this work on a well spec desktop with a pair of giant UHD+ displays than a laptop. Without an answer, this is an interesting A/B case. You can get more potent graphics in a “gaming laptop” with the conseque

Engineering laptop

The Lenovo is more durable for sure. Discreet GPU absolutely not required (new intel Xe is surprisingly robust) but not a terrible idea to accelerate CAD apps. Went with the Lenovo P1 for my kid but got it before memory prices spiked. Also a good option is to get the service contract that covers acc
