ThinkPad P1 Gen 8

I mean the screen is worse on the Mac, the P1 Gen 8 is a tandem OLED 4k screen, the Mac screen is just a well tuned IPS, also I am really surprised Macs got that heavy compared to what is considered a workstation Lenovo machine.

ThinkPad P16 if mostly on desk, P1 gen 8 if you need a bit more portability. Desktop if it doesn't need to be a laptop, much more power for your money.

FWIW, I actually quite dig the P1's overall design, but I'm personally really not a fan of the keyboard direction as of late. Panther Lake is a marked improvement over Arrow Lake. That being said, nothing wrong with Arrow Lake, and the P1 Gen 8 is a great choice for a productivity machine. The main reason to wait would be if you need 5G, as that is a feature Lenovo newly (re)introduced on the P1 Gen 9.

The top-end T1g/P1 models trade battery life for raw performance. I find the Ultrabook Plus model to be a good all-rounder, even for CAD with fewer part counts. Skip all the hype brands. Durable laptops with good Linux support are made by only 3 companies: Dell, Lenovo and HP. Discard all other options.
