Lenovo’s New ThinkPads Score 10/10 for Repairability
It basically solves the issue of not having less efficient sodimm memory while also not soldering the memory to the motherboard close to the CPU. The memory comes in these removable modules that have contact points on the bottom and so they just sit on the motherboard and get screwed down. It's almo

Is lpcamm2 gonna survive if crucial stops exsisting?
Lenovo is using lpcamm2 on thinkpad t14 gen 7, thinkpad p1 gen 8, thinkpad t1g gen 8. I think they will continue production, and hopefully it becomes more and more mainstream.

Dream laptop
ThinkPad P16 if mostly on desk, P1 gen 8 if you need a bit more portability. Desktop if it doesn't need to be a laptop, much more power for your money.

P1 Gen 9 announced!
FWIW, I actually quite dig the P1's overall design, but I'm personally really not a fan of the keyboard direction as of late. This is maybe a nitpick, but the new font and lower-case on everything besides the core letters reminds me of what I remember with HP, and I just don't think it looks good on

Laptop recommendations
I'm not even in STEM. But I'm assuming you might need some 3d drafting softwares like Solidworks. ASUS Zephyrus is a great choice. You can also consider ThinkPad P1 Gen 7, great reliability Avoid MacBooks tho, a lot of drafting softwares that Engineering students need aren't native to Mac.

ThinkPad T1g Gen 8 Arrived!
I'm a huge fan of the center keyboard 16" ThinkPads. Hence my picking of the P1. These newer models and the T1G look so nice. I'm wondering why Lenovo dropped the 1600p 165hz display in g8. 1200p at 16" feels good, and I have one 16" with it, but content density isn't as good.

Laptop 13 Pro memory speed limits - what we know
The reason is the insufficient motherboard performance of the Framework 13 Pro (and the TP T14 G7). To fully utilize the speeds of LPDDR5X-9600/8533, a motherboard with HDI (high-density interconnect) technology is required, but the motherboards in the Framework 13 Pro and TP T14 G7 do not meet that

Why do people say the P series is overkill for most people?
It's not hard to find a charger. Unless you're buying gaming laptops even a simple USB-C to Lenovo "rectangle" port adapter will work. You just need a 100W USB-C charger and a suitable cable - the whole set can cost under $30, and is useful beyond just your laptops (it'll also charge your phone). Al

Consensus on P1 Gen 8 vs. upcoming Gen 9
Panther Lake is a marked improvement over Arrow Lake. That being said, nothing wrong with Arrow Lake, and the P1 Gen 8 is a great choice for a productivity machine. The main reason to wait would be if you need 5G, as that is a feature Lenovo newly (re)introduced on the P1 Gen 9.

I want Linux to work, really I do
rage inducing bugs. This. I recently tried Ubuntu on my Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 2. On paper, the perfect Linux device: Intel Coffee Lake Refresh, not to new not too old (good 5 years), workstation grade. Turns out the touchpad is unusable due to a bug that's known since years, making the scroll speed
