Nice find! The P1 Gen 2 is one of my favorite ThinkPads. The keyboard is so good! But yeah, people will chew you up for showing that you have Windows on it. That’s why I don’t post in this sub so much anymore. Use whatever OS you want, and enjoy your machine!

You can save a lot of headache by just getting an equivalent year X1 Extreme of ThinkPad P1 Gen 2. With a 4k display it is around the same price and everything will work out of the box.

That happened all over my p1 gen 2 which was my old work laptop. The coating on metal think pads is very vulnerable to certain oils, especially POE and PVE oil. Anywhere where there was a scratch this would start happening. It’s just cosmetic though so I didn’t really care.

rage inducing bugs. This. I recently tried Ubuntu on my Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 2. On paper, the perfect Linux device: Intel Coffee Lake Refresh, not to new not too old (good 5 years), workstation grade. Turns out the touchpad is unusable due to a bug that's known since years, making the scroll speed

Recently someone said it was no wonder that the touchpad on my ThinkPad didn't work correctly¹, after all it's my choice of Ubuntu LTS! So literally the most known Ubuntu Desktop distribution in the long term stable version, lol. And the ThinkPad was the probably best case Linux machine, ThinkPad P1

Like, ThinkPads don't normally go bad, but it is a pain in the ass when they go. I had a P15 Gen 1, which as flawless. Sold and god an P1 Gen 2 with the 4k screen, and problems were constant. Battery life, was mediocre but that was the 4k OLED fault, but the major problem came in a way of BIOS updat

Look for A ThinkPad P53 or P15 G1, yeah they're 15inch, not 16inch and they're heavy, but they have GPUs and can game. If you'd rather have a lighter carry then look for X1 Extreme or P1, gen 2 and 3, they're the same chassis, just one has Quadro graphics instead of GeForce. If you must have a 16 in

Dam. My ThinkPad P1 gen 2 has the same issue. It has a not-so-casual i7-9850H (45W TDP) and Quadro T1000 (65W TDP), and gets spicy quickly too. I'm gonna upgrade to a legion go tho

With these prices, you get a lot more hardware for your money with the P1 Gen 2. That said, the battery figure for the P1G2 is fairly accurate with this hardware. The 4k OLED panel eats through your battery life. Even if you replace the battery, it'll still be 4-5 hours, on lighter use. The P14sG2i
