Recommend me a large cheap tablet for reading pdfs.
That's what I use-- the Lenovo ideaTab pro 12.7 is very readable, but it can get a little heavy to hold sometimes. You have to de-crap-ify some of the Lenovo software but otherwise it's a solid choice and a good value at around $400 USD-- hopefully about 300 pounds in the UK for the OP.

The A series before the A11+the A9+ used a SD 695 which in all honesty is a good processor but is like 25% slower than the MT7885 a.k.a Dimensity 7300 (only difference is the 7300 supports refresh rates for the display upto 165hz) and the A8 had the Unisoc 606 a truly horrible processor.
