Is there a reason outside of being Amazon that Kindles are disliked in this sub (US specific)?
I’ve had three Kindles over the years and the Oasis that I got in 2017 is still my primary device, so I’m certainly not anti-Kindle. Would I get another one though once my Oasis dies? Nope. Reasons are many - not a fan of Amazon’s practices; my Oasis has excellent hardware but I don’t like the book

Feeling conflicted switching to Kobo
It depends on each person's use case, so I'll explain why kobo works for ME better than kindle. Amazon discontinued the kindle oasis and I didn't want to get a device without buttons. Kindle doesn't support Canadian libraries, but kobo has overdrive integration. Kindle's UI is horrible, the home pag

Kindle or Kobo?
As of a year or two ago you can't download ebooks you buy from Amazon, and you can't get them off the Kindle either. Your library is thus tied to whatever Amazon do to their e-readers, and since I bought my first in 2011 the software has got constantly worse. The Pocketbook Era Lite (which I moved t

Is the Kindle still the king of e-readers?
I also heard Kindle gives you ads - is that true? Amazon serves it as offering an ad-supported Kindle for a cheaper price - if you’re OK with getting lockscreen ads, you pay less to buy the Kindle. If you don’t want ads, you can buy a slightly (around 20 € or 20 $) more expensive version upfront and

Whats the last story that kept you up waaaaay past your bedtime
Yes 100%. I started with a kindle, but if I had to do it over again, I'd get a Kobo. (Unless if you read a bunch of indie/trad pub novels, then get a kindle). Use Kobo with Calibre (software) to organize your books. I use a tagging system to identify tropes, ships, and whether they are in my TBR or

What book made you finally buy an e-reader?
i just thought the e-ink technology was super interesting and i got a second-hand Kindle 2 in 2009. i eventually decided i prefer physical books whenever possible and now the Kindle Oasis 3 is used only for out-of-print, free and hard to find texts.

Libby books staying on device after return date?
Oh really? The newer kindles can't keep libby books past 14 days either? I was about to upgrade my kindle to a newer one (possibly the oasis), but if it cant keep libby books like my voyage can I'll hold off on upgrading. I also have a kobo clara colour i enjoy using but sucks that the libby hack do

Liseuse?

I would sell my left leg for a kindle oasis if it weren't amazon-ified.

How do you figure out it's the right time to switch to a new eReader?
I owned a Kindle Oasis 2 from 2018. One day, I logged out of my Amazon account, only to realize I couldn’t remember the exact login details I had used all those years ago. After countless failed attempts to recover it, I eventually gave up and created a new account just so I could use my Oasis again
