Ha , did the same with a pair of Kef lsx II LT and MIE 8 sub . Bought quick , and sold quicker ! An example of not trusting reviews!

Is it possible to get a good quality cassette player & recorder in a $300 budget?
Is it any of these : KEF LSX II LT, PSB Alpha iQ, JBL 4305P, Kali LP-UNF, Klipsch The Fives, ADAM Audio D3V, or Edifier MR4? If yes, then sure. But if not might as well just go with the boombox, you will save yourself a bunch of money and probably won't notice the difference.

Then all of that streaming, input selection, etc. features in your KEF are not going to be used. You would either want to go with those KEF speakers, or the more suitable for longer listeni
