I really like my Kali Audio monitors. Very good value across their lines. For $900, you can get a new pair of IN-5, or for $1000, a pair of IN-8s, which are great three way speakers. You might try those and if you find the bass lacking, add a sub. Or for $600, you could do their LP-8.

I mainly use headphones for mixing, but I’ve owned both and the 560s have been my go-to pair for about a year now. There’s nothing else I’ve tried in that price range that comes close. I’ve done countless hours of research trying to find the best value, even tried more expensive headphones like Aude

Genelec was literally just one example. My point is that there have been some breakout brands, like Kali Audio, that make insanely good speakers for the price. The IN-5 and IN-8s for example have a plethora of reviewers saying they prefer them over $1000 or even $2000 speakers.

Maybe look at either of: Kali Audio IN-8v2 (EAC review) (Thomann listing) Kali Audio IN-5 (EAC review) (Thomann listing) (Note that the price and selling unit is for just one speaker.)

X32 Rack as a mixer running to a stereo pair of Kali Audio In5's with a mono Kali WS 6.2 sub. Plex server playing FLAC files only via the X32 USB connection. Technics 1200 (single) and a surprisingly nicely built Gemini rack mounted CD player. Basic, but sounds great in the space, and allows me to e

Mkay - then I'd really not got with one of those. They are made to be used with their purpose built subs and alignment software. And those are made to do mixing on them - they're not fun. Also, with their subs and software it will be twice your budget. Whatever speaker you are going to go with - you

Kali audio in-5 ( this is a v2 model anyway), or if u have a bigger room the in-8 v2 (the in8 had a older v1 model, the in5 was much newer). Its a very neutral speaker, you can boost the low end +2 db (aling with other minor tweaks via the dip switches). A very clean, neutral, and not ov3rly bassy s

Hmm... I don't know that loudness by number, but are you just listening too loud? Could it be the wide range of frequencies, from the subs to the top end air frequencies that just overload your brain after a while? If so, I kind of get that... My monitoring situation isn't high end or anything, but

Look at the line of Kali Audio products. I have their In-5 studio speakers paired with their WS 6.1 subwoofer and its plenty for in studio listening and just popping off. Worth every penny.

The audio quality on those should be rather good for the money, for a desktop setup. See e.g. Erin’s and Darko’s reviews (if you haven’t already): EAC review, Darko.Audio YT review. Other options could be powered speakers from Vanatoo or active studio monitors from Kali. Though, looks probably aren’
