Iloud MTM or Genelec 8010 for 7.1.4
The Genelec 8010 is a pretty thin sounding monitor. Even with room correction bumping up the low end I don’t quite think they’ll be super pleasing without significant support from a sub. The iLouds on the other end have no problem getting down to below 40hz, again especially with corrective software

Studio Monitor Suggestions?
iLoud MTM MKIIs for a medium sized room, or the iLoud Micro Monitor Pros for a smaller room. I started with the Micro Monitors, and upgraded to the MTMs last year because of GAS, but I don’t regret it. They sound great out of the box, and can be further calibrated to your room using the included ARC

iLoud MTM MK2 vs Genelec 8010 — which for a small untreated room?
This is not a meaningful comparison. The Genelecs’ build quality is much better, with an enclosure made from aluminum and a high resale value even after years. But the 8010 model is designed as a size marvel first, sacrificing low end extension and SPL. The iLoud MTM can play much louder and lower a

Best speaker for mixing in untreated room?
iLoud MTM. They have a calibration system to automatically tune the response to your room.

Monitor Help..
Look at IK Multimedia's iLoud series. Highly underrated. These are their MTM MKIIs, but their micro monitor pros are excellent too: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/iloudmtm/?pkey=iloud-mtm-mk2-black-pair

Recommendations on portable monitors.
ILoud MTM are fantastic. Not the basic iLouds, but the MTM, either version. Insanely detailed and clear, shocking amount of clean bass and volume for the size. And they have a built in calibration system to tune to whatever room youre in

Computerphile explaining DSP, cool but what are those speakers?
Maybe the iLoud MTM in white. Only good MTM that comes to mind at a desktop form factor. They measure great for their size, but are pretty expensive.

Small room / desk against wall — which speakers/monitors should I buy?
Honestly for that room size + without acoustic treatment, i'd go for IK multimedia iLoud MTM mkii. Includes their arc mic and arc X software for acoustic self calibration. Pop those in and you're good to go. Minimally I would treat the room to reduce reverberation time decay. Any extreme standing wa

IK Multimedia has pulled Mixbox from the App Store
Mixbox is very good. And the iLoud MTM are one of the best nearfield monitors for small poorly treated rooms. Tone X is great too, best free amp sims on iOS. But the company is an asshole for abandoning Mixbox and all their older apps.

VSX vs. high-end open backs (max 1000 euro): How do you build a reliable reference in a terrible room?
Even after going through Neumann NDH-30 open backs with Neumann RIME software, I just gave up on trying to mix with headphones. I use the iLoud MTM MKii comes with a measuring mic and ARC X software, I feel like my mixes are finally translating everywhere after so long, it really removes that cloud
