I use the workouts on my garmin enduro 3 and it works a treat. I think all watches / devices will struggle with sudden speed changes as it’ll take a short average (3-5 seconds or so) as your speed. I wouldn’t expect the Apple Watch to be much different to the Garmin though when it comes to tracking

Unless you are an elite running on a certified course in elite wave so you can hit the tangents, it’s probably never going to be perfect. I think the most important thing is to pick one method and stick with it so you can figure out the idiosyncrasies of your device and accommodate for it mentally.

Look for a deal on a Garmin Enduro 2 or 3. They are imo the best trailrunning watch by far in terms of features and battery life for the money and should be well within your budget. Lot of people mentioning Coros here, but imo getting an older Enduro 2 with 2x or more the GPS battery life (and unlim
