+1 to this. During my trip last month, my eSIMs from Airalo and Trip both worked perfectly, but the VPN I got just in case (ExpressVPN) didn't. (I also had NordVPN because I use it at home, but I knew in advance that it wouldn't work, because China made blocking it a priority)

What VPN are you using because every fucking time I go to China, I have to spend like 3 hours trying to use Express VPN, and the second I connect to some shitty server in Zimbabwe, the connection gets cut. I am also a gamer, so I gotta have one that's actually able to handle a stable connection over
