Need more buttons.
Depends on how you're reading the keys. At the application level they'll look like the same input, if your keymapper is hooked in low enough down it can map things differently based on source. Safest is to get a full-on QMK number pad like the KBDcraft Adam 20% or the Zouya GMK26 so you can program

Have anyone try to use mini keyboard for shortcut?
I tried one of those it's very stiff for my finger getting fatigue real fast lol, i switch to Huion Keypad dial instead best decision ever, though i would recommend just buy Numpad that support VIA like EPOmaker EK21 it's usually cheaper and higher quality.

Keyboard Recommendations
Epomaker EK21. Run away. I tried to configure mine to support three layers and it kept resetting and forgetting all its programming. It's some kind of awful proprietary firmware badly emulating QMK. The Zouya GMK26 is far better.

My Study Setup (Going to back to college at 42!)
It's the epomaker rt82, and epomaker ek21 numpad. You can program the numpad to do my macros, it's pretty cool.

KN85 vs Epomaker TH85, same price, Mac user, does software compatibility matter? Which should I pick?
VIA with a real QMK board, source or not, is so much better than any proprietary solution with or without VIA that, well, it does make a difference. But yes there are Epomaker boards that are running proprietary firmware with a port of VIA on top. Also seen such shenanigans from Zouya, Feker, and Ga

Best full size?
I haven't checked out the Galaxy 100 but a lot of Epomaker boards are not actually running QMK, they have some kind of port of VIA on top of crummy proprietary firmware. My ek21 was the worst. What country are you in cuz I'm seeing about $30 for 110 from Metrikeys.

Getting QMK on Zuoya GMK26?
It's running QMK firmware, and it's configured for VIAL. Zouya has not released the QMK source code for it. You should contact them and request a copy, they are legally required by the GPL to provide you with one. Though if they don't your options for forcing them to are limited. :( If enough people
