Carabiner wear from jul2?

My MegaJul does that too. 🤷 I guess if I start having material missing from my carabiner I'll replace it. For now I think it's just street cred. 😂 I do think my MegaJul behaves better with an Edelrid Bulletproof carabiner. It's not critical though.

What would be the perfect belay device for you?

Edelrid recently updated their Mega Jul. I'd love to try it out, but since I have a Giga Jul (which is shit if you don't use the exact right rope) and a Grigri (I don't like it, but it's workable), I don't actually need a new device.

Anybody using Beal Birdie for lead climbing? What’s your thoughts?

I think a lot of dislike for the grigri from people who originally learned to lead belay on an ATC comes from just not having enough practice with it to belay smoothly. I was a grigri hater for years (used an edelrid jul 2 as my ABD for a long time) and have switched to the grigri as of a couple yea

New to the hobby, how did I do for $125/any other gear I should pick up to learn on?

There are other, less expensive and equally dependable ABDs (Assisted Braking Device) available like the Edelrid MegaJul, BD ATC Pilot, Mamut Smart, or CT Click Up/Alpine Up. Most can be found around $50 US, have attributes that many prefer over the GriGri (i.e. double ropes, less weight, and/or SS

Does grigri ever go on sale?

epictv.com (they have a US site) has them under $70. Shipping is pretty steep since they ship from EU, but they have a free shipping tier at $100 or so. I just bought two Pinches for me and a friend. As for whether it's worth it, I think anything is an upgrade from a basic ATC. There are several oth
