New to trad and multipitch - problem / question about tube style device

Get an Edelrid Giga Jul. Single most versatile device which is compatible with twin/double ropes and has assisted braking, even in trad context. I'd ignore the CT Alpine-Up, just doesn't have any advantages over the giga jul.

First Belaying Device

Most versatile is definitely the edelrid giga jul. It's got assisted and standard modes, 2 rope slots for double ropes or rappelling, guide mode, and is pretty affordable. This is good if you want one device for literally everything. If you're only going to be doing single pitch sport, it's hard to

Gyms Worldwide Increasingly Ban Tube-Style Belay Devices in Favor of ABDs

I also don't know of any ABDs which can feed 2 strands, would be sincerely curious if you could name any. The Edelrid mega jul and giga jul do everything a regular tube does, and they're also assisted.

Weekly Question Thread (aka Friday New Climber Thread). ALL QUESTIONS GO HERE

I think you've pretty much answered your own question where if you haven't had any issues with your belay devices, you probably don't need a third. You can consider whether or not you can get away with using just a single belay device for belaying a leader, belaying a follower, and for rappelling. T

What would be the perfect belay device for you?

I like the Edelrid Giga Jul for trad climbing. Auto braking and still usable as a tuber and double rope rappel.

Is there any meaningful difference between different brands' belay plates?

all tubers you mentioned have aluminium wear parts. they release black aluminium oxide onto your rope and the environment and they have to be rebought regularly making them a symptom of an overconsumption and throw-away mindset. the mammut nordwand alpine belay and the edelrid giga jul are tubers wi

First Belaying Device

Most versatile is definitely the edelrid giga jul. unfortunately, the edelrid giga jul is quite terrible with rope diameters above about 9.7 mm except for rappelling. my favorite way to rappel is actually with the edelrid giga jul in assisted mode. You can always buy an atc guide later if you start

Monthly Trad Climber Thread

I climb trad almost excluseively with double ropes, the Edelrid Mega/Giga Jul completely negates this problem in my opinion, just the perfect device for the job. I've tried grigri single rope with tagline, the tagline is just not a great solution when you can have two 8mm ropes instead. It sounds st

ATC Alpine Guide vs Nano Jul

As a fan of the giga jul, it’s worth noting that Edelrid actually only recommends 7.5mm be used as twins with the giga jul.

First Belaying Device

Guide mode stuff with the Neox is terrible/unadvised. The spinning wheel is crap and goes to shit in sand. Kind of a shit device all around to be honest. Petzl stuff is usually so dang good, they really made a stinker with the Neox. Glad Edelrid addressed the low MBS issue with the Pinch. If I didn’t
