What is a brand that used to be the 'Gold Standard' of quality but is now absolute garbage?
The Dell XPS13 was the best implementation of the "small light but not shit" laptop. Always interesting to see what uni students buy: it's their own money, they want to take it everywhere, and they want four years service with no drama. XPS13 was the #1 choice. Now it's MacBook Air M-series.

Spoiled by XPS, how is the FW 13?
I've had several XPS 13's and an XPS 17. Love them, but my Framework 13 takes the cake and gets the most usage. The new XPS 13's have really frustrating design (e.g. Where does the trackpad begin and end? WTF did Dell do to the function keys???) XPS Pluses Very vibrant IPS screens (I always prefer t

Why do people generally buy Carbon X1 when they are so ridiculously expensive?
I bought my X1 Carbon Gen 10 in 2023 not because it's the fastest. I travel a lot usually backpacking for months at a time and weight is a very important consideration. It's also sturdy and well built. Good battery life on Linux. At the time my top contenders were X1 or Dell XPS 13. Having Linux ins

Very disappointed with Tuxedo. Lost me as a client.
I have an XPS 13, which is almost the same age, same form factor and a few hundred euros cheaper. It has 16GB of RAM instead of 64, and a consumer-grade Intel CPU. Now, the Speedometer 3.0 results are ~30% higher, real battery life is the same as IBP, sound and mic are both decent, the webcam doesn’

Looking get a high-end Linux dev laptop. Need recommendations!
I have a Framework 13 right now and am pretty happy with the build quality - but I want to throw in the Dell XPS 13. I have a 2022 model that now serves as a backup. That one is built like a MacBook and it ran both Ubuntu and Linux Mint without any hitch, problems or quirks. Dell does give Ubuntu as

Spoiled by XPS, how is the FW 13?
Agree with all or this. I had 3 XPS 13 over the years. Great machines. Was very happy with them. (Always the Ubuntu version) Then at the start of the year bought the current XPS 13 with the damn XPS 13 Plus design (they discontinued the old XOS 13 line and dropped the plus from the variant line). A

what year and spec xps is the best value right now?
If you want to keep the 13 inch form factor, then the current XPS 13 9350 is great. Excellent battery on par with MacBooks, exceeding it in many cases as well as basically no heat or fan noise. It’s nothing like the older XPS laptops

are there any good modern Japanese netbooks?
You want a netbook with a DVD drive? I don't think thats a thing, get an external drive. I got an XPS 13 because I miss netbooks maybe look into that or other 13" laptops with the best processor for your budget. I paid about $400 for a budget netbook in 2009, adjusted for inflation, your budget is v
