Dell laptop idling just below 3 watts on Pop!_OS with zero tuning
Battery life is mostly a platform property. You need to get all your ducks in a row from the low-level hardware all the way to applications. Hardware design choices by the manufacturer matter, and firmware is important too. In the end, with some laptops you get awesome power efficiency under Linux o

Brand new XPS 16, nowhere near 30 hours of battery life they claim
Wipe it, and install Windows 11 IoT LTSC. Never use the image that comes with the laptop. I’ve got the current XPS 13 9350 and this easily lasts me multiple days before I have to charge. In a day, I can keep going with ease.

Spoiled by XPS, how is the FW 13?
I've had several XPS 13's and an XPS 17. Love them, but my Framework 13 takes the cake and gets the most usage. The new XPS 13's have really frustrating design (e.g. Where does the trackpad begin and end? WTF did Dell do to the function keys???) XPS Pluses Very vibrant IPS screens (I always prefer t

Why do people generally buy Carbon X1 when they are so ridiculously expensive?
I bought my X1 Carbon Gen 10 in 2023 not because it's the fastest. I travel a lot usually backpacking for months at a time and weight is a very important consideration. It's also sturdy and well built. Good battery life on Linux. At the time my top contenders were X1 or Dell XPS 13. Having Linux ins

Very disappointed with Tuxedo. Lost me as a client.
I have an XPS 13, which is almost the same age, same form factor and a few hundred euros cheaper. It has 16GB of RAM instead of 64, and a consumer-grade Intel CPU. Now, the Speedometer 3.0 results are ~30% higher, real battery life is the same as IBP, sound and mic are both decent, the webcam doesn’

Best laptop for a CS/Business student
Choose a balanced ultrabook over a gaming laptop. Windows i7 or Ryzen 7 with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD The ThinkPad X13, Dell XPS 13, and Zenbook are all good. The MacBook Air M2 or M3 is great unless you need Windows apps. The keyboard, battery, and build are more important than raw power.

Help me understand the rationale behind buying FW
I can't speak to the 16 as I haven't been hands on with one, but none of those downsides really apply to the 13. My 13 AMD edition has one of the best touchpads I've used on any laptop, reasonable bezels, solid battery life, an excellent screen (I love the 3:2 aspect ratio), a great keyboard, etc. I

Trying to understand Framework’s philosophy: is a replaceable mainboard really the core value?
For me, it's the whole package of repairability and upgradiablity, along with some feature bonuses that very few other laptops on the market can match. Note that this commentary only applies to the 13 - I have not been hands on with the 16 yet, so I can't speak to that hardware. I initially bought a

Ubuntu 26.04 - ARM computers
I have a Dell XPS 13 9345 (Snapdragon X Elite) running 26.04 on kernel 7.0.0-13. Broadly it works well. I don't have sound though and power management is still not as good as it struggles to go into hibernation, so if its not plugged in, it will drain to 0 overnight. Camera, wifi, bluetooth, plugin

Laptop 13 Linux compatibility questions
I had 3 XPS 13 before I got the FW13. The great Linux experience is pretty much the same, with 1 exception: Standby battery life is not as good with FW13. The battery loses roughly 2% per hour while closed and on standby. I charge every night so it's not really an issue for me. The other issues you
