My partner recently got a Dell 16" Precision 5680 and it's a seriously impressive machine. Build quality is at least as good as a modern MacBook Pro and performance is very impressive. She does 3d modeling and animation. I'm far from an expert on laptops so I don't really have specific recommendatio

i looked into this for someone else last week. the precision 5680 with rtx 4090 runs at about 80w tgp plus dynamic boost up to around 95w. not a full power desktop 4090 obviously but pretty solid for a workstation laptop. dell keeps it a bit lower than gaming laptops for thermals. you can check nvid

I've been running a Dell Precision 5680 workstation for the past couple years. 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, zero issues. Since the Pro Max is the successor to the Precision series, I'd imagine they will be awesome as well, but who knows.

Apple killed the 15" screen, but for me, 16" is a nice happy medium between 15.6" and 17" especially with the trend to small bezels - I really like my Precision 5680, I just want something with a lot more VRAM for local LLM use. The 15" widescreen models have pretty consistently had a numberpad at t

That sounds like an awesome (and intense) journey ahead — CAD, cars, maybe jets? Basically, you're training to become Tony Stark! For a $2500 USD (or around ₹2L INR-ish) budget, and your kind of workload (CAD-heavy, college use, long-term durability), I'd look at: 🔧 Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 6 / Gen 5

I took all day to respond because I'm gainfully employed. Most people don't take hardware discussions so personally or need a team to root for. I've got macOS, Linux, and Windows systems in my house and can still recognize how impressive Apple's SoCs are, particularly given the form factors they're
