I have two pairs of Dali speakers: Spektor 2 and Oberon 3. I'm happy with both. In a bigger room, the Oberon do "fill" the room better, probably because of their bigger size/bigger woofer and naturally more powerful bass. Thought the Oberon would kill your budget, so Spektor 2 could be a great entry

You need a subwoofer for TV/movie content almost by definition, but you'd need one for music, too, because the Dali Kupids can't effectively reproduce the bottom two octaves.
