if this is something you are really concerned about, you can pick up some super cheap travel routers and do all the vpn stuff there. the bonus being that it ends up being completely transparent then to all the other devices, they just connect normally. the GL-MT3000 Beryl AX is the super easy one to

Yes you can but ONLY with stock OpenWRT, not GL’s firmware. I do this with my GL-MT3000 and Cudy TR3000 just fine using WireGuard over both IPv4 and IPv6. The reason they hide it is that setting up a VPN server in this configuration is slightly more difficult to do as you have to set up NAT yourself

If you will travel abroad into the countries with internet censorship WireGuard will not help you as it is blocked in many places around the world. You should use more sophisticated VPNs there like X-Ray or Amnezia WG (the obfuscated version of WireGuard). The latter has also kernel module for OpenW
