I'm currently on a 4 week trip living out of a Cotopaxi Alpa 35. The bag checks all of your boxes and is quite comfortable, don't overlook it. The Alpa comes in both 28L and 35L.

If you want a backpack, I love my Cotopaxi Alpa. You can also do a duffle with a long strap so the bag goes down by your knees.
