I have switched from F955 to Apex 4 for many of the same reason you mentioned. Having no software update after 2-3y with garmin is crazy to me and for their low entry watch cost you can have a mid-high tier with coros. FR970 is a solid watch. My issue with it was display was too bright even on dimmest setting, stock watch faces were not my jam and battery life wasn’t as good as 965. This leads to leapfrogging of the watch lineup, where often the premium models are more outdated than the budget models.
