I went from a Pace Pro to a Forerunner 970 and back. Garmin is such a mess in case of UX on both App and Website. I have switched from F955 to Apex 4 for many of the same reason you mentioned. Having no software update after 2-3y with garmin is crazy to me and for their low entry watch cost you can have a mid-high tier with coros. I personally sold everything I own from garmin, this company lost their way. Coro
