Which belay device to pick
gigajul is awesome but not with gym topropes, which are a bit much for it. belay devices are tools designed to match a job, not a single one size fits all thing. You want something to learn to belay indoors on, that is probably any regular toothed belay device, or an assisted device. The regular too

GriGri vs. ClickUp: Why does the GriGri remain the default for beginners when the ClickUp feels more intuitive to me?
I've got similar feelings, I can't belay on ClickUp to save my life but I strongly believe that AlpineUp is the best thing since we had sliced bread. It allows much faster and safer belaying in my opinion.
